Opportunity House hosted its second annual trivia night on June 14. The event raised roughly $19,000, all during an exciting night of fun and games.
One hundred fifty people attended the event, 60 of whom were first time supporters. Guests competed in 10 rounds of trivia across several categories. Additionally, local businesses donated items for a silent auction, and a fund the need auction brought in an additional $5,000. The latter section was purely for attendees to support Opportunity House’s program.
“[The attendees] don’t win anything. There is no reward for participation. They are just supporting our work,” advisory board member Robert Donnelly said about the fund the need auction. “It reminds us of the support we have from the community.”
The event succeeded in engaging attendees, with several people emailing and calling Opportunity House to say how much they enjoyed the event. One highlight the guests focused on was the emcee; while he was busy facilitating the auctions and puzzling the audience with trivia, he kept attendees laughing throughout the night.
Donnelly noted that trivia nights are just the right scale for a smaller nonprofit like Opportunity House, since they have more reasonable up-front costs compared to massive events like galas. To grow the organization’s supporter base going forward, Donnelly hopes to build interest with smaller events throughout the year.
“Overall, we are pleased with how the event turned out. It’s now about exploring how we can grow the event in the future,” Donnelly said.
